NavShield 2010 - 3-4 July 2010

Results from the 2010 can be found here.

Every year on the first full weekend of July, the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad organises and runs the NSW Emergency Services Wilderness Navigation Shield or NavShield.

This premier navigation event, attracts entries from local, interstate and overseas organisations, including:

  • VRA and SES squads
  • Bush Fire brigades
  • Emergency Services
  • Armed Forces
  • Bushwalking Clubs

The event is endorsed by the NSW State Rescue Board, and entry is open to all groups that participate in search and rescue activities, Bushwalking Clubs and Members of Rogaining Associations.

Contestants test their bush and compass navigation abilities in an overnight event through 100 square kms of wilderness terrain a few hours drive from Sydney, Australia.  They attempt to gain as many points as possible by finding their way on foot, to pre-set checkpoints. There is an easier one-day event, used by many teams as a training exercise.

The event is an opportunity for the best navigation and rescue teams in the country to compete in unfamiliar terrain with no support groups.

For the rest of us, the event is an opportunity to build our navigation skills in a safe, friendly and multi-service environment.
