The 2016 Navshield was held at Wombeyan Caves.
Please note that the date of NavShield 2017 has changed.
NAV2017 will be held on the 24th & 25th June 2017.
Every year the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad organises and runs the NSW Emergency Services Wilderness Navigation Shield or NavShield.
Navshield is proudly supported by the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association
This premier navigation event, attracts entries from local, interstate and overseas organisations, including:
- VRA, both regional and specialist squads
- Police including Police Rescue
- Ambulance and SCAT
- Rural Fire Service
- Other emergency services including rescue helicopters and medical teams
- Armed Forces
- Bushwalking Clubs
- and others
The event is acknowledged to be an important training event for the NSW emergency services. Entry is open to all groups that participate in search and rescue activities. Bushwalking Clubs and Members of Rogaining Associations are also welcome.
Participants test their bush and compass navigation abilities in an overnight event through 100 square kms of wilderness terrain a few hours drive from Sydney, Australia. They attempt to navigate to checkpoints throughout the course area on foot both by day and night. There is also an easier one-day event.
The event is an opportunity for the best navigation and rescue teams in the country to train in self-sufficiency in exciting, unfamiliar terrain.
For the rest of us, the event is an opportunity to build our navigation skills in a safe, friendly and multi-service environment.
Next year's Navshield will be the 29th consecutive year of the event.
